Egypt keen on Supporting Development in Nile Basin Countries: Irrigation Min

Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam asserted that Egypt is keen on supporting development efforts in Nile Basin countries, boosting cooperation and achieving progress as a the cornerstone of Egypt’s water policy.

He asserted Egypt’s commitment to providing technical expertise and financial support for the different projects that serve citizens in the Nile Basin countries via measures that achieve welfare and prosperity to all and help the African countries to achieve sustainable development and promote environmental sustainability of the water resources in the Nile Basin countries.
 

This came during Sewilam's meeting with a number of leaderships of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to review the work files of the sector the affairs of Nile water related to bilateral cooperation with international bodies specialized in the water field.

The meeting reviewed the situation of bilateral cooperation projects with Nile Basin and African countries in addition to Egyptian efforts via its presidency of African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) and the situation of AWARe initiative, that is attempting to catalyze inclusive cooperation to address water as a key to climate change adaptation and its co-benefits.
 

Sewilam reviewed the cooperative approach adopted by Egypt to boost cooperation with Nile Basin countries to implement projects that serve the citizens in these countries.
 

The meeting reviewed the efforts of the ministry in Africa, he said, adding that Egypt exerted prominent efforts in 2023 and 2024 during its presidency of AMCOW which continues until 2025, he said.

Egypt has been keen on promoting cooperation among the African countries, he said, adding that Africa played an important role under Egypt’s leadership at the international level in several international forums.
