Is utility performance only for the elite?
Some years back, the former head of Black & Veatch’s water division Dan McCarthy
said to me: “What we need is more utilities who are prepared to invest for
performance.” It is a thought which has stayed with me ever since. In fact, it was
the inspiration for our Leading Utilities of the World initiative. It challenged me to
see if we can bring together those utilities who can plan for the long term, spend
money to save money, and have a restless interest in new ideas that might
transform their future. At the American Water Summit in Houston next month, we
will be welcoming the 50th member to the group.
