Reuse of Treated Wastewater An Added Value Outweighs Risks

Introduction

The history of treated wastewater re-uses dates back to early 1980’s after the construction of Kherbit As-Samra treatment plant (country’s largest plant) which treats significant amounts of Amman and Zaraqa wastewater approx. 65 MCM/y. On its course to the Jordan Valley the reclaimed water gets mixed with surface run-off from side wadis and the surrounding catchment’s areas before it is stored in the second largest reservoir in Jordan, King Talal Reservoir (KTR) which has a capacity of 75 MCM.
